Everything you need to know about NIOXIN
If you’re on a quest for fuller, thicker hair, you've probably come across NIOXIN - a haircare brand that’s garnered a loyal following for its specialised treatments designed to combat thinning hair. But, with so many hair products on the market, what sets NIOXIN apart and how can it work for you? We sat down with Jon Walker, education brand manager at NIOXIN, to uncover his years of experience educating customers and stylists alike to share exclusive tips, dispel myths, and offer expert advice for anyone curious about addressing thinning hair.
We’re diving into everything you need to know about NIOXIN: from its unique formulas to its benefits and best practices for use.
Nioxin works on targeting 3 main areas – root, scalp and strand. Treating these 3 areas results in clinically proven thicker fuller looking hair.
The key ingredients (found in the kits) are:
Caffeine: to help stimulate blood flow
Niacinamide: for calp moisturisation
Peppermint oil: to control sebum production
Salicylic acid: to remove dead skin cells, remove oil and product build up
When it comes to the Anti-Hair Loss range, sandalore, which is a synthesized version of the fragrance sandalwood, helps to promote hair anchorage and stimulate the follicles.
The kits are split into 2 varieties - light thinning (Systems 1 & 3) and progressed thinning (Systems 2 & 4).
Light thinning is noticing your ponytail is slightly skinnier than normal or if you feel you don’t have the same volume in your hair that you used to.
Progressed thinning is when you can visibly see the scalp and the hair appears finer in texture. A change in hairline and parting can also be a sign to move to progressed thinning kits.
There is a difference between thinning hair and sheading hair. We shed on average 100 stands of hair per day, and this is more likely if you only shampoo your hair 1-2 times a week, as over the days in-between, the hair hasn’t had a chance to shed, so might feel like more than the daily 100 strands. Also, shampooing your hair won’t make it thinner, as if you leave it 2-3 maybe even 4 days it will appear more strands will be coming out.
People also mix up breakage with shedding. Using hot tools, chemical damage and not always drying your hair before bed can cause hair to become brittle and snap. This might make the ends of your hair feel thin.
Nioxin with its unique root, strand and scalp approach cares for hair from root to the tip.
Personally, with my hair being lightened and using a lot of heat on my hair daily, I use System Kit 3 for Coloured or Chemically Treated Hair with Light Thinning and team it up with the Density Defend Anti-breakage Strengthening Mask as this helps to prevent up to 97% less breakage of the hair – this helps keep my hair healthy and strong.
For root lift, I also use Density Defend Diaboost Hair Thickening Serum Spray, to give extra lift and volume at the roots!
