How To Use Retinol With Other Skincare Products
Retinol is a retinoid that is derived from Vitamin A. Retinol is an exfoliator that works by stimulating collagen production to accelerate the turnover of your skin cells.
Retinol based skincare offers many benefits therefore it is no surprise that many people turn to retinol to help with the overall appearance and texture of their skin, as well as to combat the signs of ageing such as age spots, fine lines and wrinkles.
We’ve previously discussed how to apply retinol and here we will be showing you how to use retinol with other skincare products in your routine.
Using Retinol With Other Skincare Products
Retinol based skincare is recommended to be used as part of your evening skincare routine and the key to seeing the best results from retinol comes from consistent use.
We recommended using your retinol-based skincare once or twice a week for best results. It is always best to build up your skin’s tolerance first. Therefore, if your skin is feeling somewhat sensitive afterwards, reduce your usage and choose skincare with a lower percentage of retinol.
Step 1: Cleanse your skin
Cleanse your skin with your favourite cleanser to remove makeup and dirt that has built up during the day. Following this, gently pat your skin dry.
Step 2: Apply Serum
At this stage, it’s recommended to use a water-based serum such as hyaluronic acid. Once your water-based serum has been absorbed and your skin is dry, it’s time to apply your retinol skincare!
Step 3: Apply your chosen retinol
Apply a pea-size amount of your chosen retinol serum or moisturiser to your fingers and apply it to your skin gently.
Step 4: Apply a nourishing moisturiser
Once you have applied your retinol serum, you can complete your retinol routine with a hydrating moisturiser as retinoids can be quite drying on the skin.
LOOKFANTASTIC top tip: Don’t forget to apply an SPF in the morning to protect your skin as retinol can make your skin more sensitive.
