Skincare for Dry Skin

Discover a wide selection of skincare for dry skin featuring moisturising cleansers, serums and face masks formulated to lock in moisture.

"Dry skin is characterised by a lack of oil. Dehydrated skin is characterised by a lack of water. Often the two go hand in hand, however a true dry skin might take a little more consistency and diligence to restore to a comforted state." - British Beauty Council Expert Melanie Grant

What is the best way to soothe dry skin?

"Dry skin craves both moisture and protection. Start with a gentle cleanser and follow with humectants like hyaluronic acid to draw water into the skin, emollients to smooth, and occlusives like shea butter to lock in hydration. Remember, layering products strategically can make all the difference." - British Beauty Council Expert Dr. Ifeoma Ejikeme

We've consulted with the British Beauty Council's top dermatologists to provide you with expert insights on how to care for dry skin and which key ingredients you should look for in your skincare products.

What causes dry skin?

"Dry skin can be intrinsic, but can also be spurred along by other factors such as seasonal changes (the skin usually becomes a bit drier during winter when moisture levels in the atmosphere drop) and age (the older we get, the more sebum production slows). Along with pronouncing any fine lines and wrinkles, dry skin compromises the skin’s barrier function. " - Melanie Grant

"Dry skin happens as a result of excessive water and oil loss through the skin. This can happen for a number of reasons including ageing, genetic conditions such as eczema, overwashing, harsh soaps and weather/seasonal change. The skin looks and feels dry, rough, scaly and itchy." - Dr. Sharon Wong

How can I prevent dry skin?

"Incorporating an oil, balm or milk based cleanser will set the right foundation for a lipid rich regime. Follow this with hydrating serums that contain antioxidants like vitamin c, resveratrol and ferulic acid to support optimal skin function. Exfoliating mindfully with an enzymatic formula can be beneficial in removing any dead skin and build up, refreshing the complexion and enhancing product absorption. Oils layered over the top of a nourishing, occlusive cream or blended with your daily moisturiser can enhance their nutrient density and lipid profile, providing a richer formula to comfort and support a dryer devitalised skin." - Melanie Grant

What key ingredients should I look for to help dry skin?

"Ceramides are natural lipids (oil) present in the skin that form an essential part of the skin barrier. Dry skin is typically associated with low ceramide levels so using moisturisers that are rich in ceramides helps to support and strengthen the skin barrier and reduce the signs and symptoms associated with dry skin." - Dr. Sharon Wong

"Overnight cream masks can also offer immense benefits without much heavy lifting on your part. A lot of these modern formulas contain peptides, ceramides and botanical actives to really give the skin a boost while supporting repair and regeneration overnight while you sleep." - Melanie Grant
