No irritation
Have tried many retinols but all have left me dry, flakey and sore. The ordinary gave come up trumps yet again with this low to no irritation formula. Love it.

Great results
I've been using this daily for nearly 18 months now and my skin looks so much better than it has in several years. After a tiny midlife crisis as I neared my 40th birthday, I did lots of research into skincare and started building The Ordinary products into my daily routines. I use this at night, directly onto clean skin and I follow with moisturiser, adding an oil when my skin is especially dry. I initially tried using lots of The Ordinary products but quickly realised that the retinoids work best on their own as the only active in a routine. I swap this out for lactic acid once or twice each week. My morning routine is a little more complicated but I'm pretty certain it's The Ordinary's Granactive Retinoid 5% at night and Niacinamide in the morning that have made the huge chances I've noticed in my skin over the past 18 months. The changes were slow but I no longer have enlarged pores. The skin under my eyes is plumper and my fine lines are softer. My skin as a whole is smoother and softer. I hope this review is helpful. I know I find it frustrating when I read beauty reviews for anti ageing products by very young people or by people who have only tried a product for a very limited time before offering an opinion.

is this what it appears to be?
This is the third Retinol/Retinol product from The Ordinary which I have bought and used. I was very happy with the first two and worked through the inevitable sensitivities which arise when beginning to use Retinol. So I was ready to move on to something stronger and I thought this was it. But is it really a 5% concentration of retinoid? The small print states it is a 0.5% solution of retinoic acid. That is a difference of a factor of 10. I have been disappointed that my skin has not improved at all since using this and is not as good as it was when using the other apparently less concentrated squalane solutions. In particular open pores are much worse. I'd really like to know what the actual Retinol concentration is in this product if anyone understandseen the chemistry

Not for me
Many people seem to love this and it got rave reviews on YouTube. I had used the Granactive Retinoid serum 0.2% before and it was superb. But I wanted a higher concentration so I decided to try the 0.5% in Sqalane. But I really didn’t like it. It made my eyes sting and my skin feel greasy. I had no redness or peeling on my skin, but when I applied it over the Niacinamide 10% serum, it got all grainy, and also the smell really bothered me. My skin type is combination and my age is 45.

Great retinol serum
Love this stuff. Really does seem to be working well for me. I started off on the 2% in emulsion which I'm glad I did but I must say I prefer the squaline as it really feels like it is hydrating my skin. People have commented that my complexsion is flawless and how envious they are and I can see my open pores disappearinhg.
